JPSearch Part 4: Metadata embedded in image data (JPEG and JPEG 2000) file format

Part 4 specifies the JPSearch file format. It provides a mechanism for exchanging image data and its associated, metadata. The JPSearch file format is an extension of JPEG-1(ISO/IEC 10918)/JPEG 2000(ISO/IEC 15444) file format. It is fully compatible with JPEG-1 or JPEG 2000 and provides additional functionality to carry associated metadata within a file. It contains several JPSearchMetadata blocks. A JPSearchMetadata block is a container of JPSearch metadata. Each of them has one or more ElementaryMetadata blocks inside. ElementaryMetadata block is a basic structure of the Part 4 specification. It stores an instance of a certain metadata schema by a certain author. Multiple instances for the same schema can be instantiated simultaneously to implement social tagging functionality. Any type of metadata schema can be used, as long as it is registered using the ISO/IEC 24800-2 framework.

A JPSearch Part 4 compliant file should contain at least one elementary metadata block whose SchemaAndIdentifier is "JPSearch:schema:coremetadata", which means that the block contains an instance of the JPSearch core metadata schema.
